This Hornet's Nest flag was the first flag of North Carolina it dates from June of 1775. It had the date of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence May 20,1775. This Declaration predates the one in Philadelphia by more than a year. Some are thinking that Jefferson might have copied the Mecklenburg Declaration and a year or so later write the Declaration in Philadelphia. Controversy still abounds with this document. There are British documents that mention this declaration and many eyewitnesses also mention it in their writings. The Mecklenburg Resolves predated alot of other political groups that came about prior to the Revolution.
