Listed in the Field Return of Cumberland County, NC Militia commanded by Colonel James Rutherford, general muster, as rank of Private.

Listed in the Register of Officers of the Continental Army as a Captain for the Sixth District of NC on April 16, 1776.

On August 2, 1784, the heirs of NC Captain Arthur Council were granted 3840 acres of land as a war bounty grant by the state of North Carolina for his service in the revolutionary war.
