Colonel Ambrose Mills

Col. Ambrose Mills, from Rutherford County

Mills led men at Earle’s Ford and Kings Mountain, and was among those condemned and executed at
Biggerstaff’s. His was considered among the most lamentable deaths there; as by most whig and tory accounts
he was an honorable and decent man. Though Mills himself was not responsible for it, Gordon and McCrady make
note of the fact that his own death was prompted in retaliation for the hanging of whig Adam Cusack.
